Andy Smith is a transplanted Yankee from New York City. He’s been in a number of bands since the 1960’s, but acquired a special taste for bluegrass while singing with the Richmond-based Izod Valley Boys in the 1980’s. Andy met the other members while in the West Gallery Choir of St. James’s Episcopal Church (from whence Oak Lane got its start) and was a high school history teacher in Richmond for 40 years. Now in semi-retirement (but still working at St. Christopher’s School), he’s threatening to work on his fiddle playing. We’ll see.
